Dear Dr. Slawin and Staff,
I will be in Houston next week for my post-surgery check-up, but I wanted to take a moment and write a letter of thanks ahead of time. I had my laparoscopic robotic prostatectomy on January 23, and was dismissed form the hospital 22 hours after the surgery. I experienced very little blood loss and did not need any pain medication after the third day. I stayed at my son’s home in Houston for a week, and though I took it easy, my wife and I went to the movies and got about. The only inconvenience or slight discomfort I experienced had to do with the catheter.
The second week, after my catheter was removed, I was back in El Paso and worked from my home. I took walks every day through our pecan orchard, worked on taxes, traded stocks ~ things I normally do after work hours. I went out to dinner with friends and attended church. I have had no incontinence, just a little “leaking” when I sneeze or get overly tired.
By the third week, I could do anything, but didn’t want to be seen out in public too often or my staff would wonder why I was not back at work full time. The only after effect I noticed was feeling a little tired by late afternoon. So I indulged myself in naps occasionally ~ a first in my life.
By week four, there was simply no excuse to indulge in a vacation any longer, so I went back to my full schedule, which is pretty vigorous ~ long workdays and some travel.
I am a walking advertisement for you and the procedure you performed. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the attention of your staff ~ before and after surgery, the impartation of information and time, and your incredible skill. My internist in town has asked for your name for referrals. When I ‘m back in Houston, give me a stack of business cards to hand out. I wouldn’t want anyone to have to face prostate cancer; but should that occur, I can attest to the fact that there are people who can make it as painless and less disruptive to a life as possible. You all are the best.
Thank you for your excellence in every sense.
Sincerely,
George Wayne
